Divers for Sustainable Oceans

.) We will attract and work with responsible divers whose ethics are aligned with our mission statement.
.) We will continue to promote ocean stewardship as it demonstrates our respect for the ocean. The common ground we share with some in the conservation community will help us in achieving our goals.
.) We will address gaps in the data that can more accurately inform the process, relying upon the expertise of our membership and allies.
.) We will use collaborative problem solving methodologies, employing weekly and on demand teleconferencing, online and in person research and artful advocacy to respond to issues.
.) Members of the Watermen’s Alliance will deliver exceptionally relevant public testimony along with the submission of scientific data that justly reflects the pertinent issues involved in the MLPA process.
.) We will help the Science Advisory Team (SAT) understand our practices and environmentally sound positions. A recent example of this is the SAT’s acceptance that the spearing of coastal pelagics (yellowtail, white seabass and bonito) offers a high level of protection (LOP) in many Marine Protected Areas.
.) We will expand our membership and horizon to include others who have similar values, for example kayak fishermen who use many of the same access areas and hunt similar species. We will gain and maintain a seat at the table with such groups as the Fishermen’s Information Network (FIN), the Partners for a Sustainable Ocean (PSO), Pacific Freediver Organization, and will work with RSG members who share our goals.
.) We endeavor to interact and strengthen our mission focus while enjoying close friendships as we share our common passion for the ocean and it’s sustainability through spearfishing tournaments and fund raising events.
.) We will collect membership dues and raise funds through various activitiestournaments, film festivals, auctions and donations.
.) We will allocate funds for advertising, for outreach and to various organizations that share our mission and goals.
